Review + Swatches: Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat polishes ♡
Recently I went to Walmart and noticed that they stocked some new Sally Hansen products! the ones that particularly caught my attention were the crackle polishes. I picked two of them, so here's the review!
Hace poco me pasé por Walmart y me di cuenta que había algunos productos nuevos de Sally Hansen, entre ellos unos esmaltes para el efecto crackelado (o craquelado), compré dos y aquí esta la reseña!
Pero antes, ¿Qué son los esmaltes craquelados? Estos esmaltes se aplican sobre otro color de esmalte y al secarse se van como partiendo, dejando ver el color abajo.
The green polish is called "Sage Smash". It consist of lots of tiny green glitter on clear polish. Super pretty!
El esmalte verde se llama "Sage smash". Tiene muchos pequeños brillitos verdes sobre una base transparente.
The black polish is called "Star burst". It consist of big silver glitter on black polish.
El negro se llama "Star burst". Contiene brillos plateados más grandes sobre una base negra.
Consistency: Both have an ok consistency. Star burst was a bit more goopy though, and have dried up a bit since I got it, which was just a few days ago. It was a bit harder to work with it too, but nothing too bad.
Consistencia: La consistencia en los dos es regular. Star burst estaba un poco más espeso lo que lo hacia algo difícil de trabajar. También me di cuenta que en los pocos días que los he tenido, Star burst se ha "secado" un poco, quedando más espeso.
Color and Crackle ability: I did some swatches so you can see how they crackle. I applied them over regular white polish (remember to always use a polish underneath or they won't crackle!).
On the top part of the nail I applied a thick coat. As you can see, the crackle effect there is not as good as on the bottom part, were I applied a thinner coat.
Color y habilidad "Crack": Hicé unas pruebas para que puedan ver cómo "crackean". Los aplique sobre una capa de esmalte blanca (siempre se debe usar algo debajo de ellos, o si no, no funcionan!).
En la parte de arriba aplique una capa gruesa y en la de abajo una más delgada. Como podran ver, el efecto fue mucho mas prominente con una capa delgada.
Star bust dried up and started crackling a lot faster than Sage smash. Also, the cracking ability is a lot better on Star burst, Sage smash didn't really crackled as expected.
Star burst se seco mucho más rápido que Sage smash, y el efecto crack también es mejor en Star burst.
Regarding color, I'm a bit disappointed with both polishes. On the bottle, the glitters from Star burst look very pretty and shiny, but when applied, they get covered by black polish and are not very noticeable. And with Sage smash, since its base polish is clear, the crackle effect is not very noticeable.
Estoy un poco decepcionada con los dos esmaltes. En la botella, el glitter de Star burst se ve muy bonito y brillante, pero ya aplicado queda cubierto con el esmalte negro y no se notan mucho. Con respecto a Sage smash, como su base es transparente, el efecto crack casi ni se nota.
When dried they have a matte finish. With a top coat they look a lot better and the glitters on Star burst look a bit more noticeable, as on the picture below.
Cuando se secan quedan muy ópacos, pero se soluciona fácilmente con una capa de esmalte protector transparente que les da mas brillo.
Price: These polishes were around $6-7 usd each. They are definitely expensive for a drugstore polish and for the quality. You can get about the same from other brands for a lot cheaper.
Precio: Me costaron alrededor de 80 pesos mexicanos, lo que es MUY caro para la calidad. Pueden encontarlos mucho más baratos en estos días, les recomiendo buscar y dejar estos como última opción.
Packaging and brush: The brush on these are n the thinner, longer side. It is ok, though I personally prefer "fatter" brushes. Into the packaging, I HATE the plastic thingy covering the cap with the crackle effect. It makes SO hard to open the bottles because it moves so much. You can always take it off though (what I'm gong to do).
Empaque y brocha: La brocha es larga y delgada, muy regular. Una cosa que odie fue el plástico que recubre la tapa, porque se mueve muchísimo y hace muy difícil el abrirlos.
Overall: I think these polishes are good & pretty but nothing really impressive. If you're looking for a very noticeable crackle effect I wouldn't recommend Sage smash. They definitely are too expensive for what they are so I would recommend better to look around for similar alternatives.
En general: Creo que estos esmaltes son bonitos, no malos pero nada extraordinario. Son muy caros para la calidad, asi que recomendaría buscar opciones más baratas que terminan siendo lo mismo. Si quieres un efecto craquelado que se note bien, no recomiendo Sage smash.

¡Creo que ésos son bonitos! Pero, tengo "Sage Smash", y nunca puedo ver ningún crackle... nada. Pero, es un topcoat de brillos verdes muy bonito, no? Y, también, estoy una estudiante de español, y quise practicar mi escrito. Si hay errores en mi gramática, ¡lo siento!
